Norwich Public Utilities (NPU) has announced that it will temporarily close its Customer Service Center, located at 173 North Main Street, effective on Monday, March 16, 2020. In addition, its offices located at 16 South Golden Street will be closed to the public until further notice.
Customers requiring assistance with their utility account or service should contact NPU at 860-887-2555.
Utility bill payments can be made online at norwichpublicutilities.com, by calling 860-887-2555 (to pay by credit card, savings or checking accounts) or deposited in the drop box located outside the Customer Service Center at 173 North Main Street.
“The health and safety of our customers and employees is always our highest priority. And by shutting our Customer Service Center, we’re taking steps to help keep our community safe,” said Chris LaRose, NPU General Manager. “Every day, our employees interact with hundreds of customers in our service center and by reducing interpersonal exposure, we are taking an important step to avoid the spread of the virus in our community.”
NPU is also fully supportive of the State’s moratorium on utility service terminations for residential customers for non-payment, following Governor Lamont’s Declaration of Public Health and Civil Preparedness Emergencies. Going forward, residential customers who are unable to pay their electric, natural gas, and/or water utility bills will not have their utility services turned off.
“We know that the pandemic will create issues for a number of our customers. We want them to know that NPU is prepared to help our customers through this challenging time,” said LaRose.
Any customer participating in this program will be responsible for any unpaid balances at the end of the moratorium. NPU will provide payment plans for customers who need extra time to catch up on their past-due balances.
